In general I am feeling positive for this season.
But that usually means West Ham are going to kick me in the teeth again.

So I keep getting the gut flip of don't fall for it they are just tricking you feeling.

Diop needs to get better in the air for me, especially at his size.

But all opinions.

A fun comparison for Friday afternoon

From a sky article on transfer windows and best IXs

Everton - Pickford; Coleman, Keane, Mina, Digne; Gbamin, Sigurdsson, Delph; Richarlison, Kean, Bernard

Leicester - Schmeichel; Pereira, Evans, Soyuncu, Chilwell; Ndidi, Tielemans; Perez, Maddison, Barnes; Vardy

Wolves - Patricio; Boly, Coady, Vallejo; Doherty, Moutinho, Neves, Dendoncker, Jonny; Jimenez, Jota

So to compare (and these are all mine) -

Keeper - Fabianski
Right back - tough but Doherty over Pereira
Centre backs - Boly and Keane
Leftback - Digne
DM - Rice
CMs/AMC - Madison and Sigurdsson (thought fit Lanzini and Wilshere are not far off)
Left winger - Anderson
Right wing - Richarlison
Forward - Jiminez

Ended up with no one new to league because I guess you never know.

You lot?

Re: The transfer deadline day thread - Albian Ajeti signed
maybe we can.

but i think most neutrals look at our back 4/5/6 and ask questions.
not the keeper, im talking back 4 plus centre mid.

all the questions will get answered sooner or later.

Re: The transfer deadline day thread - Albian Ajeti signed
Think there is a very clear mini league developing behind the "big 6" between Everton, leicester, Wolves and us then on paper there should be a bit of a gap to whoever is in 11th.

But the bookies have the other 3 teams in that group all around 10/3 or 7/2 to finish top without the big 6 whereas we are 11/1 so i think there is definitely a perception that we are still at least a small distance behind the other 3

Re: The transfer deadline day thread - Albian Ajeti signed

Really? heard plenty of neutrals talking about how good our business was and how they think we can do something this season. Dont get me wrong, they are not saying we are better than those you mention but certainly that we could come out on top of that group and be the ones that break into top 6 should someone drop out.

Re: The transfer deadline day thread - Albian Ajeti signed
everyone presumes their own players are better than they are.
leicester city fans think they have the best XI outside the top 6, so do wolves so do everton.

no-one outside west ham will look at our first XI and say its better than leicester/wolves/everton

I don’t mind playing the 1st team and have the chance to win a cup for a change

Yeah and sometimes I think a hungry youngster is better than a second string player. Snodgrass I have no worries about he tries no matter what it others that might not .

For some games I agree but...

It is hard to keep players beyond the first team motivated without offering some playing time.

Look at Diangana, he contributed to the first team at least partially because he showed something in a cup game.

The "play the best lineup every game" and "I expect youngster to come through" ideas are in reality an oxymoron to me.

Re: The transfer deadline day thread - Albian Ajeti signed
Err... I’ve got an idea, why not field our best 11 and try and win a cup?

ironsofcanada 4:35 Fri Aug 9
Re: The transfer deadline day thread - Albian Ajeti signed
Silva could play in the cups - right? when he recovers and that other kid from Portugal was supposed to have promise.

Who were you thinking about?

We can still loan people out to lower leagues and foreign ones Coventry and Holland have been talked about.

Diangana , Cullen and Trott (who got injured) went

And Samuelsen and Haksabanovic were already gone before the window.

Jasnik 4:30 Fri Aug 9
Re: The transfer deadline day thread - Albian Ajeti signed
Yeah so which youngters will we blood into the cup games now or we will we be playing first team players who are not getting may games.

angryprumphs 4:28 Fri Aug 9
Re: The transfer deadline day thread - Albian Ajeti signed
Because they believe Johnson is in the position to challenge for a place in his position, where as others are not quite there. For example Diaganna was needed last season but with Yarmo back, Lanzini fit etc would struggle to get into the squad.

Jasnik 4:15 Fri Aug 9
Re: The transfer deadline day thread - Albian Ajeti signed
I thought we loaned out most of the potential youngsters who might get a game so only johnson is left.

Not sure what will happen in the cup now Snodgrass etc ?

Re: The transfer deadline day thread - Albian Ajeti signed

Agree 100% about Johnson, really like the look of him and think he is seen as proper part of the squad. Surely that is part of what we need to do. Start to have some of these young players coming in and actually playing a role not a bit part.

easthammer 3:20 Fri Aug 9
Re: The transfer deadline day thread - Albian Ajeti signed
Given our Budget of £30m plus sales I think we have done okay this window. We got shot of players that were past their best and on the face of it have a squad with more potential
But of course that needs fulfilling.

Like others have commented on to me it seems strange that a cdm was not a priority and I am still wondering what the manager knows that we don't. But I guess we will have to trust him, elsewhere his judgement seems sound. Although a new contract for Athur was a bit surprising. Maybe the coaching staff think he can be improved. Blimmey what an old fashioed idea where did that come from! As for those that think we should have got another fullback. Would you have been happy to see Ben Johnson out on loan? As it stands there is every chance he will get a game on either flank and will replace Zab before the end of the season
.
